NHS Education for Scotland

A skilled and sustainable workforce for a healthier Scotland

One year job guarantee (OYJG) scheme

This is a Scottish Government initiative to support transition into employment and to maximise the opportunity to build on the clinical experience gained by nurses and midwives during their pre-registration programme.

One year job guarantee (OYJG)

The One Year Job Guarantee scheme is available to newly qualified nurses and midwives to help consolidate and develop their clinical experience. The scheme involves part-time (22.5 hours per week), employment in clinical practice within Scotland. Placements may include working within community nursing, public health nursing and independent care home settings. The offer is a fixed term for one year (or a proportion of that year) and supports completion of Flying Start NHS®.

All applicants to the Scheme will be in the process of seeking employment and must demonstrate evidence of applying for at least 3 posts. Nursing applicants must demonstrate evidence of applying for posts which must include posts within the independent sector including care homes.

Applicants have the opportunity to identify a preference for place of employment, but as the OYJG is a national initiative there is no guarantee of a position locally. Once allocated through the scheme, applicants will undergo recruitment processes within the placement.

Please be aware that the application process is currently closed. Please check back soon for updates.
