Future nurse and midwife

A Scottish future nurse and midwife programme board was established, to support a Once for Scotland approach to the implementation of new NMC Standards.

Our role

We provide strategic oversight, direction and governance to the implementation of: 

In the future, the nursing and midwifery workforce will be different, in some important ways. We consider the future nurse role in its entirety in Scotland.

Future registrants will have:

  • a greater focus on public health, health improvement and wellbeing
  • a greater balance across physical and mental health

As we implement this change, we must continue to value the contribution of the current workforce, to shaping the future and also ensuring ongoing CPD to support their future development.
