Karen Reid, Chief Executive of NHS Education for Scotland (NES) said:

“I am pleased to announce that NES is participating in the Equally Safe at Work accreditation programme, which enables employers to address the barriers women face at work.
“As an organisation we are committed to progressing gender equality at work and this programme provides the tools to make meaningful change, better support employees and create a culture of zero tolerance towards violence against women.
“We care about the health, wellbeing and safety of our staff and want all employees in the workplace to feel safe and supported. It is important that we take an approach that recognises that women have different experiences of employment, and this is shaped by multiple, intersecting inequalities and discriminations that overlap to create different levels of inequality.”

Lynnette Grieve, Employee Director, NES added:

“Equally Safe at Work will enable NES to develop initiatives and practice that better reflects our staff needs and aligns with our values and strategic commitments.
“Over the next year we will be undertaking activities to progress gender equality and better support for victim-survivors of violence against women. These include a review of our flexible working, recruitment and progression practices and holding awareness-raising sessions.
“We will ensure the changes we make are sustainable and will be working to embed this work throughout our organisation.”

Equally Safe at Work is an employer accreditation programme developed by Close the Gap. It supports employers to improve their employment practice to advance gender equality at work and prevent violence against women.
