New resource on healthcare water and drainage systems

New resource on healthcare water and drainage systems
A new national resource has launched to support the workforce in gaining knowledge and skills to improve patient safety.
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have developed the animation in partnership with Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland.
The animation is designed to improve knowledge of healthcare domestic water and above ground drainage systems. It also enables key practitioners to recognise the infection, prevention and control (IPC) risks associated with a healthcare water and drainage system during construction, maintenance, and retrofit activities – as well as improve understanding about why these risks emerge and how they can develop if not properly managed.
The resource - titled 'IPC considerations for construction and maintenance of healthcare domestic water and above ground drainage systems' - is particularly of interest to a range of staff such as:
- NHS Board construction project teams and estates teams
- Health care water system designers
- IPC teams – such as infection control nurses, doctors, and directors
- Plumbers and installers and water engineers
Key professional groups engaging the resource will learn how to effectively manage IPC risks during construction and maintenance, with signposts available to key NHS Scotland guidance relevant to construction and maintenance.
The animation, which lasts for 7 minutes and 35 seconds, is hosted on the NES Healthcare Built Environment TURAS Learn zone.
