Working with substance use

NES Psychology has announced the relaunch of their expanded and updated TURAS resources on Substance Use.

This resource was developed to support all of Scotland’s substance use workforce - both those who may have an interest in working with people affected by alcohol and other drug use as well as for specialist substance use professionals.

These resources consider a range of different psychological and psychosocial interventions that can help make a difference for people impacted by their drug and alcohol use.

To help practitioners and services navigate the current Scottish picture and in particular the Scottish Government Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) standards, we have mapped the resources to each of the 10 standards and also provided links to key strategies and to other learning resources from key partners.

The Mental Welfare Commission (2022), report Ending the Exclusion, was published last September. The resources that NES has been developing reflect their recommendations of the importance of addressing stigma.

They sit within a framework of Trauma Informed Practice and are designed to enable practitioners to deliver compassionate and evidence-based interventions focused on person-centred recovery.
