When studying or undertaking research, managing large numbers of references can be daunting. Reference management software helps store, organise and use references.

NHS Scotland OpenAthens account holders have access to RefWorks an online reference management system.

There are some changes coming to RefWorks that current and new users should be aware of.

As of 30 June 2023, the current version of RefWorks (known as Legacy RefWorks) will no longer be available. We are encouraging all new and current Legacy users to transition to the newest version of RefWorks.

To help you with this transition we have created a RefWorks guide which includes:

• guidance about the transition, including how to access and sign-in, and how to import references and folders
• training videos
• frequently asked questions (FAQs)
• step-by-step instructions for new users

The new version is available on The Knowledge Network and related services.

But you will be able to access Legacy RefWorks until 30 June.
