Newly updated ‘Safe disposal of waste’ module now live
Making sure we sort our waste safely and correctly is one of the biggest contributions we can all make to making our NHS – and other organisations across health and social care – more environmentally and financially sustainable.
Keen to play your part, and want to ensure you know what needs to go in which bin? You can now access a newly updated eLearning module on the safe disposal of waste on TURAS Learn.
The module offers helpful guidance on:
- what good waste segregation looks like – what can be recycled and what should be disposed of as clinical waste
- your responsibilities as a waste producer
- the ‘journey of waste’
The updated module was a collaboration between NHSScotland Assure colleagues within NHS National Service Scotland, the NES IPC Education Team, ARHAI Scotland and Scottish Government colleagues. It has been updated in line with changes in national waste management guidance and legislation and adheres to infection prevention and control procedures outlined in the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) and the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway (SIPCEP).
You can access the module on Turas Learn. If your board uses LearnPro, you can access the module on LearnPro by searching for “NES: Safe disposal of waste (including sharps)”
If you would like any further information, please contact the NES IPC Education Team at hai@nes.scot.nhs.uk
