A day of tradition and a shared vision for the future
The signing of the NES Armed Forces Covenant was celebrated at the historic Royal Gun Salute at Edinburgh Castle to honour His Majesty The King’s 76th birthday on 14 November.
The event, hosted by NHS Scotland’s Armed Forces Talent Programme (AFTP) and Lowland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA), showcased the ongoing commitment to recognising and integrating the valuable contributions that the armed forces community provide within Scotland’s healthcare system.
Edward Challis, Principal Lead of the NES Armed Forces Talent Programme (AFTP) said:
"Signing the Armed Forces Covenant is a fantastic milestone for NES, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces Community and the Armed Forces Talent Programme (AFTP). This programme and the Paid Internship Opportunities initiative is a vital pathway for members of the armed forces community to transition seamlessly in NHS Scotland roles by gaining invaluable experience.
“Spending time in the NES offices at Westport and 2CQ, I’ve had valuable discussions with colleagues across various teams, which have fostered a truly collaborative approach to shared ideas and opportunities between the AFTP and other programmes.
“I’d also like to highlight the pivotal role Naomi Penfold in NES Technology Service has played in developing a dashboard for the AFTP team, enabling us to track data and showcase our achievements. It was wonderful to have her join us for the event at Edinburgh Castle.
“Initiatives like this aim to address workforce challenges while valuing the diversity, discipline, and leadership that the armed forces community brings and helping break down barriers to employment opportunities for armed forces personnel, veterans, and their families.”
