Mental Health Improvement and Prevention of Self-Harm and Suicide - Turas learning site
Our Mental Health Improvement and Prevention of Self-harm and Suicide team, working in partnership with Public Health Scotland, have produced educational resources to support staff across the public sector and beyond.
They provide health and social care staff the knowledge and skills needed to promote good mental health and wellbeing across the whole population and to prevent mental ill health, self-harm or suicide.
Our Ask, Tell, Save a life, animations talk about mental health and how to maintain this. The factors that can lead to mental distress or mental ill-health and having compassionate conversations to support people who are experiencing mental distress or may be feeling suicidal and help them seek help; and how we all have a part to play in the prevention of suicide.
We have refreshed the mental health improvement and prevention of self-harm and suicide site and, since September 2020, have added some new resources.
Animations
Following the success of the 2019 ‘Ask, Tell’ Mental Health and Suicide Prevention animations, a further three short animations have been developed to support learning about mental health, self-harm and suicide prevention, specifically for the Children and Young People’s workforce.
Once completed staff will understand the factors that influence mental health and resilience in children and young people; engage proactively with children and young people about mental health, self-harm and suicide; and recognise when to seek help.
Learning Bytes – ‘Skilled Level’
A series of short leaning bytes have been created to support ‘non-specialist’ front line staff to develop their knowledge and practice at the Skilled Level of the Knowledge and Skills Framework for Mental Health Improvement, and Prevention of Self-Harm and Suicide.
Topics include:
Promoting mental health and tacking inequalities
Supporting people in distress and crisis
Supporting recovery and quality of life for people with mental ill health
Learning bytes covering Supporting people at risk of suicide and Supporting people at risk of self-harm will be available soon.
If you facilitate learning sessions for staff on mental health improvement and prevention of self-harm and suicide you can also request access to our Informed level workshop plans, animations and slide set
