New Board Chair for NHS Education for Scotland


The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport has announced the appointment of David Garbutt as Chair of the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Board. 

The appointment is for four years and will run from 01 April 2018 to 31 March 2022.

NHS Education for Scotland Chief Executive Caroline Lamb said:

“I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to David. I’m looking forward to working with him and to the the contribution that he will bring from his extensive experience in the public sector and his commitment to training, education and workforce development.” 

David Garbutt has over 20 years’ experience working in the public sector in a variety of leadership roles delivering transformational change and quality improvement programmes. He joined Scottish Ambulance Service as Chair in 2009 and led the Board through a significant programme of transformational change and the implementation of a new strategic framework to deliver enhanced patient care. He is the Chair of the NHS Chairs Quality Portfolio Group and has implemented an extensive Quality Improvement development programme for Executive and Non-Executive Board members. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development.
