Scottish Improvement Leader - Applications Open

Do you work in Scottish public service?
Do you want to lead and generate support for change?
Do you need to gain an in-depth QI knowledge to drive improvement in your organisation?
If you answered YES, then the ScIL programme wants YOU!

The Scottish Improvement Leader (ScIL) Programme is a key part of Scotland’s innovative approach to address increasing demands across our public services by developing QI capacity and capability.

The content has been developed with the demands on Scotland’s public services in mind. It emphasises the importance of understanding people and relationships in change and how to lead and influence for improvement. This interlinks with the other core concepts of Improvement Science: systems thinking; building knowledge through testing, understanding variation and using data to support improvement.

This 10-month Programme blends structured study with workplace learning and mentor support, while enabling participants to develop support networks.

The aim of the ScIL Programme is to enable individuals to:

  • design, develop and lead improvement projects
  • lead and generate support for change, and
  • provide expert QI support and advice in their organisations

60% of participants are from Health and Social Care. They are brought together with committed improvers from across Scotland’s public services. The power in sharing learning across organisational contexts is frequently cited by participants as an invaluable benefit of the programme.

“Truly the best experience and course I have ever completed. So well run, so much fun, also very challenging and rewarding”

We are excited to announce that the next round of recruitment for ScIL is now OPEN and due to high demand, we will be recruiting 3 cohorts of this programme simultaneously.

Stream 1: Cohorts 15 and 17 are open to colleagues working in or contributing to any area of public services in Scotland

Stream 2: Cohort 18 is open to nursing and midwifery staff only to support the implementation of Excellence in Care

Applicants must be able to attend all 3 days of each of the 3 residential workshops scheduled and other programme learning events as outlined in the event list.

They should also expect that work relating to the programme will account for approximately 20% of their workload for the duration of the programme, and quality improvement will be a significant focus in their role going forward.

Selection will be by application. An application pack, including a programme outline and person specification, can be downloaded from the QI Zone here.

All applicants require explicit sponsorship from either (a) NHS Director or (b) Director in Scottish Government or Public Service to undertake the programme, to lead improvement projects, and to teach and coach others.

Please note that there is no cost to the sponsoring organisation for participation on the programme (except for travel costs).

Closing date for applications: 10am on Friday, 18 May 2018 by email.
