Joan Hay#

Joan Hay is a practitioner who has been working in the expert area of medicine for the elderly for the past 9 years. As a major part of her practice, she has established a key role within the assessment clinic for the elderly at Perth Royal Infirmary supporting the multidisciplinary team in preventing and managing older people who fall. Joan also has a role across interface services supporting enhanced community support and the local social care services. Joan started the Advanced EPP module for the Pharmaceutical Care of Older People a few years ago to help her develop expertise in this area. Joan recently completed her training and has been awarded a Certificate of Completion of this advanced module.
'I felt that the training was very worthwhile, it was hard work and there was a lot to achieve, but I was able to do it at my own pace and fit it in around work and home life. It did take longer than I had planned but I have learned a tremendous amount, particularly in the areas that were most relevant to me, through having to prepare case studies and really think about areas where I needed to refresh my knowledge. It gave me the opportunity to shadow colleagues within the wider team and learn from their expertise. I have had fantastic local peer support and the team at NES have been very helpful and approachable. It has also helped me support my Foundation Pharmacist as I have a better understanding of the process and one big advantage now is that I have a wealth of CPD material now recorded!
