Introduction to NES Competency & Capability Frameworks Session

The NES Pharmacy team were invited to NHS Lanarkshire’s primary care pharmacy team training in July allowing NES to showcase the Competency and Capability Frameworks on offer to support professional development. Bite size sessions were delivered introducing the Vocational Training Pharmacist Foundation Framework, including the primary care specific elements, the Foundation Framework for Pharmacy Technicians in General Practice and the Advanced General Practice Clinical Pharmacist Framework. The session allowed members of the pharmacy team to gain an understanding of the Elements of each Framework, how the Frameworks can be incorporated into their own learning pathway and how they are able to support other team members in achieving competencies. There were also peer sessions for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians discussing evidence collation and input to e-portfolio. This half day session was enthusiastically received by the 80 team members present and a great opportunity to promote how NES Frameworks can be utilised in day to day practice in primary care. NES are open to running similar sessions in other territorial health boards. Any board interested, please contact Ailsa Macdonald at
