The planning year 2014-15 represents the first year of our refreshed Strategic Framework 2014-19, Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland. This Workforce Plan 2014-15 supports the aims of the refreshed Framework, the implementation of the NHS Scotland 2020 Vision, ‘Everyone Matters’-the NHS Scotland 2020 Workforce Vision and the Quality Strategy.

This Workforce Plan 2013/14 supports the delivery of the objectives contained within the Corporate Plan2 which represents our emerging response to public service reform and describes the detailed education and training activities that we provide to support care provided to the highest standards of quality and safety by well trained staff, who are in the right place at the right time. This is our core business which fundamentally underpins the three quality ambitions of safe, effective and person-centred care.
The second edition of the National Approach to Mentor Preparation for nurses and midwives provides a core curriculum framework for meeting the NMC regulatory standards and for consistent and transferable mentor preparation across Scotland. In addition, this second edition now includes an outline process for the identification and selection of mentors, a common understanding of the supervising mentor role and guidance for the continuing professional development of mentors to support further embedding of mentorship in practice.
