Psychological Interventions Team (PIT)

Welcome to the Psychological Interventions Team website.

The Psychological Interventions Team was set up by the Scottish Government's Mental Health Directorate & NHS Education Scotland in 2010 to support the delivery of the HEAT waiting times target by increasing the capacity of the Scottish NHS workforce to deliver psychological therapies and interventions.

Training Programme 2017 - 2018

The Psychological Interventions Team commissions, develops and provides training for staff working in mental health services in Scotland. Training opportunities are available for staff working in each of the Scottish Government Health Department priority areas (Alcohol & Substance Misuse, Forensic & Prison Health, Older Adults and Trauma) and staff working with adults with depression, anxiety and psychosis. Information about course content and eligibility is disseminated through the Psychological Therapy Training Co-ordinators in the local health boards.

The training programme is:

  • Core Psychological Interventions for Alcohol and Substance Misuse
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Anxiety
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Depression
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Forensic and Prison Mental Health
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Older Adult
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Psychosis
  • Core Psychological Interventions for Trauma

Psychological Therapy Training Co-ordinators

Psychological Therapy Training Co-ordinators (PTTC) are responsible for the dissemination of information and the co-ordination of psychological therapy training within the local health board. PTTC approval is required to attend training provided by the Psychological Intervention Team. Please click here for a list of Psychological Therapy Training Co-ordinators in your area.
