START for Public Dental Service

Welcome to Public Dental Service START 2014, this course is designed for PDS dental practitioners who are involved in all aspects of teaching. Primarily workshop based with some didactic teaching the course will cover all aspects of workplace based assessment and feedback. In addition participants will be able to explore a range of learning and teaching principles which they can apply to their day to day teaching.

Aim:

The aim of the START course is to faciliate the development of the dental trainers knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to learning and teaching.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to;

  1. Create and maintain an interactive, supportive, inclusive and safe learning environment for their VDP/ DFT*.
  2. Plan and implement educational activities which promote learning using a range of methodologies and resources.
  3. Assess their VDP's performance across all competency domains (managerial, clinical, communication and professionalism) using the appropriate assessment items.
  4. Provide quality oral and written feedback for their VDP/ DFT to promote deeper learning, affirm achievement and inform future learning goals.
