New Pharmacy programme leads appointed
The Scottish Government National Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care in Scotland describes the need “to grow the workforce at the same time as transforming how we work to further increase capacity”.
NES has recently appointed three programme leads (until March 2024 initially) who will provide leadership support to develop a sustainable pharmacy workforce within a learning organisation by building capability and confidence at an advanced practice level and beyond, potentially to consultant pharmacist.
The three national Programme Leads are:
• Paul Forsyth (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde)
• Fiona Marra (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde)
• Jacqueline Seenan (NHS Ayrshire and Arran)
The Programme Leads will aim to:
- help territorial health boards socialise the understanding of advanced practice across their staff body, especially in areas of strategic service importance to the board
- help territorial health boards plan and implement advanced practice pilots, in areas of strategic service importance to the board
- increase the number of Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs) in the pilot health boards, through developing advanced clinical practice and advanced education skills in pharmacists taking part
- support community pharmacy to increase the number of Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs), through developing advanced clinical practice and advanced education skills in pharmacists
- additionally, if there is agreement, help territorial health boards socialise the understanding of consultant practice across their staff body, especially in areas of strategic service importance to the board
The programme leads will be in touch with NHS territorial boards over the coming weeks to introduce themselves and discuss possible collaboration.
